John Allen to appeal Doomben suspension

Sunday 19 May 2019, 10:39am

Doomben Cup-winning jockey John Allen will appeal a careless riding ban out of the Group One race.

The Victorian was one of five jockeys suspended on a busy day for stewards at Saturday's Doomben meeting.

Allen was suspended for 13 days after stewards found him guilty of allowing the winner Kenedna to move in at the 300m causing interference to Savvy Coup.

He is expected to seek an internal review of the decision after he pleaded not guilty.

It should allow him to ride The Roses winner Etana in the Group One Queensland Oaks on June 1.

Kerrin McEvoy was suspended for seven days and Michael Murphy for six days for causing interference in the BRC Sprint while Matt McGillivray was sent out for nine days for causing interference in The Roses on Winning Ways.

He is likely to also appeal.

Mark Du Plessis was outed for 11 days after being found guilty of causing interference in the first race on Dansu.
