Jockey Blake Shinn gains Hong Kong licence

Thursday 6 June 2019, 6:08pm

Blake Shinn is the latest Australian jockey to be granted a licence to ride in Hong Kong in the new season.

Shinn has been granted a part-season Club licence from July 15 until February 29, 2020.

Shinn says he is proud to have been granted the licence.

"Hong Kong is one of the premier racing jurisdictions, and from the time I started riding it has been an ambition of mine to ride in one of the world's most competitive racing environments," Shinn said in a statement.

"I would like to place on record my gratitude to the HKJC's Licensing Committee for giving me the opportunity to fulfil this dream.

"I will be forever grateful to the people who have supported me throughout my career to get me to this point where I have been afforded this opportunity to ride in Hong Kong."

Shinn has been in great form during the Brisbane winter carnival including a four-win haul at Doomben last Saturday and will be looking to add to the tally with seven rides at Eagle Farm this week.

Fellow Australian rider Chad Schofield has been granted a full season licence for 2019/20 with Regan Bayliss a shorter-term licence, ending on December 31.

Bayliss is currently sidelined after fracturing his wrist in a barrier incident at Happy Valley on Wednesday night.

The new Hong Kong season begins in September.
