Ballarat jumps transferred to Warrnambool

Monday 10 June 2019, 1:07pm

Three jumps races scheduled for an upcoming meeting at Ballarat have been transferred to Warrnambool in a bid to protect the turf surface.

The three races on the course proper were in addition to synthetic flat races at Ballarat on June 18.

Racing Victoria announced on Monday the three jumps races would now be held at Warrnambool on June 20.

With the Ballarat Turf Club hosting nine races on the turf on June 16, the Club is keen to protect its racing surface which has been impacted by heavy rainfall in recent weeks.

Parts of the turf track underwent renovation during construction of the synthetic track resulting in sections shortly after the winning post and at the 1700m mark being wetter than other areas of the course.

To accommodate the transfer, one flat race has been taken from the Warrnambool meeting and added to two additional races to form an eight-race card at Ballarat while Warrnambool will host a 10-race meeting with seven flat races and the three over jumps.
