One of the mainstays of Brisbane racing, Ricky Leisfield, will step down from his role as clerk of course after the Tattersall's meeting at Eagle Farm.

He will continue to work at Doomben but felt it was time to step aside as clerk of the course after Saturday.

Leisfield arrived in Brisbane from western Queensland in 1968 to begin an apprenticeship with the late trainer Tom Dawson.

It began an association with Brisbane racing which has spanned 50 years, first as a jockey and then various roles at Doomben and Eagle Farm.

Leisfield was a jockey for 27 years before retiring in 1995 with more than 500 winners under his belt.

He has worked full time at Doomben since 1995 including as track supervisor and as clerk of the course at both major tracks.

"I will continue to work at Doomben but I have hung up my saddle," Leisfield said.

Doomben course manager Jim Roberts said Leisfield was a superb horseman who had done an outstanding job as clerk of the course.

"He is a legend around Brisbane racing and deserves all the credit he gets," he said.
