Larry Cassidy won't deviate from the normal racing pattern employed on Steps In Time in the Tattersall's Tiara at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Rather than try to turn the Tiara into a sit-and-sprint race, Cassidy believes Steps In Time is most effective when she can lead unopposed.

"She has a high cruising speed but you still need the others to leave you alone so they're not pressuring you," Cassidy said.

"If she's rolling along I don't want them on her hammer. If that means leading by a couple of lengths where she can't hear the other horses then so be it.

"That way she should be able to relax and get into a nice rhythm then kick strongly which I'm sure she can do."

Steps In Time's form in Brisbane has been below her normal high standard, finishing seventh to Red Tracer in the Dane Ripper Stakes on June 8 which followed a disappointing 11th to Epaulette in the Doomben 10,000 on May 25.

But Cassidy believes the mare only has to rediscover the form which saw her win the Wiggle Stakes at Warwick Farm in March to be highly competitive.

"Taking a line through the Wiggle where she beat horses of the calibre of Streama and Appearance, it's pretty good form for this," he said.

"She's beaten these mares before and I think she's most definitely up to Group One standard."

Chris Waller is banking on a wet track to nullify the impact of a wide draw for Red Tracer in the Tiara.

Red Tracer ($4.50) has drawn the extreme outside in the 16-horse field and has been a betting drifter behind the favourite Streama ($3.80).

There is a forecast for up to 25mm of rain in Brisbane on Friday which Waller believes lessens the impact of barrier draws on the outcome of the race.

"If it's a wet track it won't matter, draws get thrown out the window," Waller said.

Red Tracer was able to settle in a perfect trailing position when she won the Dane Ripper but Waller knows the odds of that happening again are slim.

"She drew wide last start and was ridden perfectly and with luck," he said.

"It was similar in the Queen Of The Turf but you can't always have that type of luck from wide gates."
