Midweek ploy pays off for new racing team

Friday 5 July 2019, 1:23pm

The Anderson Heathcote training partnership's ploy of placing their promising horses in midweek first is reaping benefits.

The new team had their first treble at Ipswich on Wednesday to give the stable 19 winners since coming together on May 1.

And at Doomben on Saturday, Anderson Heathcoate will saddle up Our Mantra, Yamazaki and Crafty Cop - three genuine chances to step up from midweek grade.

Our Mantra, who tackles the Chu The Phat Hcp (2000m) has shown staying promise with midweek wins at Doomben and Eagle Farm over middle distances at his past two starts.

Yamazaki has also been an eye catcher at her two midweek runs since a spell which have resulted in a Doomben win and a nose second to promising Beau Arrow also at Doomben.

She is back in her own three-year-old age group on Saturday in the 1350m race.

Crafty Cop, who has drawn barrier one in the Class 6 (1100m), was the unlucky runner when fourth in a blanket finish first up at Doomben.

Co-trainer Chris Anderson said the partnership had been getting plenty of winners on their way to Saturday racing.

"We have been bringing some smart horses through the midweek grade. We have made it clear we want to challenge for the metropolitan premiership in coming seasons," he said.

"We have been busy at the Yearling Sales and hopefully we will have some really nice horses to be competitive."

The Anderson Heathcote partnership also has Boom Boom Epic in the Class 6 (1600m).

"She wasn't far away at the finish in a far harder race at Eagle Farm on Tatts Tiara day and she is ready to tackle the 1600m on Saturday," he added.
