Trainer Desleigh Forster is far from surprised after her filly Kim Alicia caused an upset in the Madam Wu Two Year Old (1350m) at Doomben.
The race was expected to be an easy win for short priced favourite Snazz "N" Charm ($1.30) but the colt ended up fifth despite looking to be travelling well on the home turn.
Jockey Robbie Fradd was at a loss to exactly explain why Snazz "N" Charm failed to finish the race off.
"He dipped on the corner and seemed to lose it from there. Maybe that was the reason," he said.
Kim Alicia ($26) finished strongly to run down Spurious ($126) by a short neck with a half head to fast finishing Knight Mariner ($14) in third.
Forster has a high opinion of Kim Alicia and has been keen to get her past the usual two-year-old distances of up to 1200m.
"She is by (sire) Mahisara and many of his progeny have shown they want to least 2000m. I don't think she is much different," Forster said.
"The (Yeates family) bred her and that win will increase her stud value already."
"There is a 1600m race at Eagle Farm towards the end of the month for two year olds and she can head there."
Winning jockey Ron Stewart said Kim Alicia hit the line strongly and 1600m would be ideal for her.
Knight Mariner finished very strongly and was in front a few strides past the winning line.
"He is going to be a very nice horse," jockey Jim Byrne said.
