Planet Purple goes back-to-back in the wet

Saturday 22 June 2013, 1:48pm

Planet Purple has tested trainer Kerry Parker but after a two-year drought the gelding has put two wins together at Randwick.

The six-year-old won over 2400 metres on June 10 and came out on top in a slog-fest to outstay his rivals over 2600 metres on a heavy track on Saturday.

Planet Purple ($5) beat Secessio ($4.60) by a length after the runner-up had to get going again after clipping the heels of favourite Celtic Warrior near the home turn.

"He's taken a long time to mature," Parker said.

"In fact he's been a bit brain dead. He's a problem child but he's finally showing what he can do."

Parker said after Saturday's effort on the wet track, Planet Purple would probably go for a rest with the summer staying races in mind.

"I was tossing up whether to give him another run but after that effort he probably needs a break now," he said.

Glyn Schofield, who rode the tiring Black Jag, said the track was better on the inside but chopped up in the middle on the grass which was raced on two weeks ago.

A delegation of jockeys met with stewards after the second race won by Wouldn't It Be Nice and agreed to keep riding as steady rain fell.
