Rain and surface water forced the hands of stewards who called off racing at Randwick on Saturday because of safety issues.
Racing NSW chief steward Ray Murrihy said conditions were simply not safe and with more bad weather on the way in Sydney, the meeting was abandoned after three races.
"I don't if I've ever seen the track heavier," Murrihy said.
"Down the side of the track was a major problem and visibility even more so as the day went on.
"We had 60 points (16mm) of rain before the first race and more afterwards."
With 50mm of rain in the week leading up to the meeting, trainer Sue Grills had been looking forward to running Border Rebel on a heavy track and but the Winter Dash was race four.
"I don't know what I'll do now," she said.
"He will probably have to go first-up into the Ramornie."
The Listed Ramornie Handicap (1200m) at Grafton on July 10 is the aim for many of the horses scheduled to run in the Winter Dash.
Although there were only three races run, it only took the first one for apprentice Alysha Collett to once again find herself on the wrong side of stewards.
Stewards disagreed with Collett's reading of an incident at the top of the straight in the 2600m event when her mount Secessio clipped the heels of Celtic Prince.
Secessio almost came down but eventually regathered himself to run second to Planet Purple.
Collett said at no time was she trying to push through a gap and that Celtic Prince had come back at her quickly.
Stewards saw it differently and suspended her for riding her mount along when she should have taken hold or taken a different option.
She will be out after next Saturday and can return on July 12.
The loss of the five races means Collett's boss Chris Waller will have to wait until Warwick Farm on Tuesday to get closer to - or break - the Sydney training record of 156 winners in a season.
Waller, who ended the Group One season as the country's leading trainer with nine after Red Tracer won Saturday's Tattersall's Tiara on Saturday, is on 153-1/2 Sydney wins for 2012-13.
