Jade Darose chases another Flemington win

Wednesday 17 July 2019, 2:50pm

Dual licence holder Jade Darose and her only horse Parwan Prince return to Flemington chasing another win on the straight track.

Parwan Prince provided Darose with a slice of history when successful over 1000m at Flemington last month.

Darose became the first dual licence holder to train and ride a winner at Flemington and is hoping to repeat the dose in Saturday's 1000m Stable Staff Recognition Handicap.

Celebrations after that victory on June 8 were subdued, although the feat wasn't lost on Darose.

"I had a couple of friends come over but with a four-year-old son and so much happening on the day, I was pretty tired," Darose said.

"We just had a couple of pizzas and an early night.

"It was amazing and I could never imagine it happening but the next day we were back at work, so you have to move on pretty quickly."

With a lack of suitable 1000m races for Parwan Prince Darose stepped the gelding up to 1100m on June 22, finishing fifth to Milwaukee, beaten a half-length.

Darose thought for a stride that history was about to repeat itself, but the extra 100m told.

"He was amazing last time, so tough," Darose said.

"He fought off the ones on the inside but the others were out wide.

"I think he's better on a track just into the soft rather than a heavier track, even though he gets through it and it was a bit unfortunate that he had to run over 1100 metres.

"He had to run two weeks after his first run otherwise it would have been six weeks between races.

"He's as bright as a button and the three to four weeks between runs is ideal. Two weeks is not but its sometimes unavoidable."

With a history of soundness problems, Darose will be guided by Parwan Prince's performance as to how far he progresses during the winter.

Darose doesn't mind just the one horse on the books as it allows her to concentrate on her riding career during the warmer months.

"Without having mine in work, I can take a few more rides over Christmas and New Year but also take a bit of a break down the beach," she said.
