Bundaberg is one of the smaller race clubs in Queensland but it has again secured some big names as special guests for its Cup day on Saturday.
The club, in the Burnett region north of Brisbane, was struggling for survival about five years ago when the committee decided to be aggressive and make each of its seven meetings a year a special event.
Leading the way has been its annual Bundaberg Cup meeting which the committee ensures always has high profile special guests.
This year Australian Hall of Fame trainer David Hayes and top Melbourne racecaller Matt Hill will be at the Cup function on Friday and meeting on Saturday.
They follow Peter Moody, Darren Weir and Jim Cassidy as guests in recent years.
"We are a small club and to survive you have to be innovative so we try to get guests and functions to appeal to a broad base," Bundaberg Race Club committeeman Justin Gorrie said.
Trainer Pat Duff will be chasing his third Bundaberg Cup with sand track specialist Fasta Than Light who won it in 2016 and last year.
