Boom Boom Epic steps up to open company

Saturday 27 July 2019, 12:40pm

The decision to miss two easier races with Boom Boom Epic paid off when she won her first open company race at Eagle Farm.

The Chris Anderson-Robert Heathcote training partnership had entered Boom Boon Epic for a restricted class race and the TAB Handicap (1800m) at Eagle Farm as well as Townsville race.

The partnership opted to run Boom Boom Epic ($11) in Brisbane and she repaid their faith with a 1-1/2 length win over to Victory Eight ($2.80) with a half length to Master Zephyr ($14) in third.

Anderson said Boom Boom Epic had been racing solidly without much luck.

"But I think the most important thing was we took blinkers off her today as she as wanted to go a bit hard in recent starts," Anderson said.

"She was able to sit up outside the pace and get a break on them in the straight."

Anderson promised winning jockey Tegan Harrison would get more rides for the stable after her effort on Boom Boom Epic.

"She rode that race perfectly and we will be using her a bit in the new season," he said.
