Lockwood rues sire's move to South Africa

Saturday 27 July 2019, 1:32pm

Eagle Farm trainer Barry Lockwood was only half joking when he said he might have to fly to South Africa to get more of the offspring of the relocated sire Time Thief.

Lockwood has had only three horses by the sire - Tumbler, Adoradancer and Showus Ya Diamonds - who have all shown plenty of ability.

Adoradancer ($4.60) continued the trend of Saturday metropolitan wins for the trio when she won the Never Forgotten Class 3 Plate (1200m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Time Thief was a smart sprinter who was Group One-placed when trained by Lee Freedman but he had a limited stud career in Australia.

He had six stakes winners in Australia including the top mare In Her Time and recently had his first South African winner in a two-year-old race.

"Apparently, he was sold to South Africa a few years back and these three I have are my last chance to race any of his horses. Maybe, I will have to see about flying to South Africa to get a few more," he said.

Lockwood said Adoradancer had been beaten at her first three attempts at 1200m but was a tougher mare this year.

"She has only had 14 runs so she can race on for another season and then we can think about stud for her," Lockwood said.
