Brooklyn Hustle impresses in trial win

Monday 5 August 2019, 3:16pm

Talented filly Brooklyn Hustle has signalled she is on target for her season return with an impressive barrier trial win at Cranbourne.

The Jason Warren-trained filly is scheduled to kick off her campaign in Saturday week's Group Three Quezette Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield after striding to a 3-1/2-length win in Monday's 800m-trial, with Miss Harriette second and Bella Rosa a close third.

Brooklyn Hustle made a big impression with her winning debut at The Valley in December which had her the early favourite for the Group One Blue Diamond Stakes.

The filly finished fifth in both the Blue Diamond Prelude for fillies and the Blue Diamond (1200m) at Caulfield in February before heading for a spell.

Brooklyn Hustle had a barrier blanket applied in Monday's trial and began well in Monday's hit-out to sit on the pace under jockey Ben Melham.

"She's right on track," Warren said.

"I'm very happy with her. She will kick off in the Quezette and we'll probably add the barrier blanket to her gear just to help her leave the gates a bit better.

"It worked well.

"Ben was pretty happy when he gave her a test that everything we know is under the hood is still there."

Warren said Brooklyn Hustle did what he expected in Monday's trial.

While the Quezette against her own age and sex is the first-up assignment, Warren remains open minded about the rest of her spring campaign which could include stretching out to 1600m in the Group One Thousand Guineas.

"She will be nominated," he said.

"We'll just see where we go after the Quezette.

"We won't rule out a trip to Sydney for the Golden Rose. We'll just see."
