Stars come out for barrier trials

Sunday 11 August 2019, 2:31pm

Glamour mares Arcadia Queen and Enticing Star will stay home a little while longer before trialling in public.

The two Bob Peters-owned mares joined Chris Waller's stable a few weeks ago from Perth.

Both are headed to the $14 million Everest and had been listed to run in barrier trials at Randwick on Monday but will be held over.

"They will both gallop on Tuesday morning and we will trial them the following week," Waller said.

"They don't need to trial yet. They will go to the Everest with two trials and one run each."

Arcadia Queen runs in the Everest in the slot held by The Star while Enticing Star will run in Waller's slot.

Another Everest runner, Classique Legend, will also miss Monday's trials with a minor nasal discharge.

Triple Group One winner Sunlight is scheduled to trial over 900m as she also begins the Everest countdown.

In the absence of Arcadia Queen and Enticing Star in the 1000m-heats, most eyes will be on Happy Clapper as he has his second trial ahead of the spring and Surround Stakes winner Nakeeta Jane who also runs in the opening heat.

"She's going to trial on Monday at Randwick then run on the 24th at Randwick in the Show County," trainer Mark Newnham said.

Waller has the imported Count Octave in the same heat.

Count Octave, who is raced by Qatar Bloodstock and Andrew Lloyd Webber, has not raced since running second to the world's best stayer, Stradivarius, in the Lonsdale Cup a year ago.
