Linda Meech escapes injury in Sandown fall

Wednesday 21 August 2019, 5:24pm

Victoria's leading jockey Linda Meech stood herself down from her final ride after a fall at Sandown.

Meech was riding Wild Sea in Wednesday's Long Fine Plate when the mare faltered near the 300m.

Checked over by medical staff, Meech walked back to the jockeys' room before making the call to not ride Al Dorama in the MRC Membership Handicap.

"I'm alright. It was my call to stand down," Meech said.

Last season's premier jockey in Victoria, Meech leads both the Victorian and Melbourne jockeys' premiership tables.

Sidelined with a broken collarbone in a fall at Geelong in April, Meech also walked away from another fall at Warrnambool earlier this month.

Meech has five rides at Bendigo on Friday and is booked for another five at The Valley on Saturday.
