Toowoomba's Kevin Kemp can further boost his reputation as a trainer who can get the best out of cheap buys when Star Centre tackles a hot field at Eagle Farm.
Star Centre will attempt to make it two wins in a row in the Three-Year-Old Handicap (1400m) which is looming as one of the best races on Saturday's card.
The race has attracted some of the most promising three-year-olds in Queensland but Star Centre will not be out of place.
Star Centre is typical of Kemp's horses as he is tough and consistent having had six starts for a win, four minor placings and a fourth.
Kemp usually trains around 50 winners a season but rarely has expensive horses.
"Star Centre didn't cost much but he has more than earned his price," Kemp said.
"I have been keen to get him out in distance and the 1400 metres should suit him. He might even hang around for a 1600 metre race in two weeks after Saturday."
Star Centre is by veteran sire Red Dazzler who consistently produces city winners from a limited number of runners.
"I really like the breed. They can sprint and they can stay so I have had a few," Kemp said.
Red Dazzler, who stands at Eureka Stud on the Darling Downs, has had five winners already this season.
Kemp has booked apprentice Nick Keal who has been in great form this season with 14 winners.
"Nick was apprenticed to me but is now with Troy Pascoe. Nick still does a lot of work for me and I am thrilled to see him get city success," Kemp said.
