Kentucky Breeze doubles up at The Valley

Saturday 7 September 2019, 2:41pm

Slow learner Kentucky Breeze will be given the chance at qualifying for a start in the Caulfield Cup after recording an easy win at The Valley.

Victory in Saturday's Powerflo Solutions Handicap was Kentucky Breeze's second in succession at the home of the Cox Plate with trainer Levi Kavanagh planning a return trip later in the month.

Kavanagh has the JRA Cup on September 27 in mind and if Kentucky Breeze performs up to expectations the trainer will consider backing the gelding up in the Turnbull Stakes at Flemington the following week.

Success in the Group One race will afford Kentucky Breeze a start in the Caulfield Cup on October 19.

Ridden by Jamie Kah, Kentucky Breeze, the $2.90 favourite, scored a 1-1/2 length win from Al Galayel ($9) with King Of Leogrance ($3) a half length away third.

"I think time and getting out in distance has helped him," Kavanagh said.

"He's also got to tracks that he likes, Flemington, Moonee Valley and the big straight at Sandown.

"He's been a slow learner and taken time but he's now had six wins from only 21 starts."

Kavanagh said spring was an exciting time of the season, not only for a trainer but also an owner and being a part of a stable.

"It's good to have a horse in form at this time of the year and at this distance," Kavanagh said.

"Each time he runs, he always tries and the result was just like it was a couple of weeks ago.

"The race panned out exactly like we hoped it would."
