Bashboy will be out to continue his march towards another Grand National Steeplechase success when he competes in his second jumps race of the season at Warrnambool on Sunday.
And trainer Ciaron Maher can't fault the outstanding jumper heading into the Thackeray Steeplechase (3450m) after a winning return over the fences at Bendigo two weeks ago.
Maher is aiming Bashboy at the Grand National again this year after taking out the race last season after also winning the Crisp Steeple.
The same two features await him after he competes at Warrnambool on Sunday, where he will be a short-priced favourite.
"He has come through the Bendigo run really well and seems bright and happy so I'm really looking forward to Sunday," Maher said.
Bashboy is yet to be beaten in his four steeplechase starts.
He trialled at Warrnambool last month over the fences and both Maher and champion jumps rider Steven Pateman were pleased with the way he handled the circuit.
The success of Bashboy in the back half of last season when he returned from injury convinced Maher to target the same races again.
"The National has been the plan and it worked last year," Maher said.
"He came on the scene late and was the fresh horse going into those races."
The Kevin Lafferty Hurdle will also be run on Sunday with Black And Bent, Macedonian, Gotta Take Care and Wells in the field.
