Premier Brisbane trainer Tony Gollan hopes his patience is rewarded when Capital Connection attempts to win his first open company race at Doomben.

Capital Connection was scratched from Eagle Farm last week to run in Saturday's VAE Group Open Handicap (1050m.

Gollan said he had decided to wait after Capital Connection drew wide last Saturday.

"He had a terrible barrier and I thought it would have been messy trying to get across," he said.

"I thought we should wait a week and we have been rewarded with an ideal barrier in four this week.

"It means Capital Connection should get a perfect run third or fourth near the rails."

Capital Connection has been carefully managed by Gollan having won five of his 15 starts.

The six-year-old has something of a following among Brisbane punters as one of his part-owners is Carmel McCoy, the wife of Brisbane sports radio host John McCoy.

After more than 50 years in radio, McCoy recently announced he would be retiring early next year.

"John and Carmel love Capital Connection and it would give me a buzz to win an open company race for them," Gollan said.

Gollan will use his apprentice Baylee Nothdurft on Garibaldi in the J L L Three-Year-Old Handicap (1110m).

The trainer is hoping Nothdurft's 2kg claim will help with barrier right which can be tricky from the 1110m-start.

"Garibaldi will carry 55.5kg which isn't bad for a horse which has been Group Two placed. But the barrier can be a worry from that start," Gollan said.

"He has had a little setback and he needs to run if he is going to run in the southern carnivals."

Gollan had planned to run Garibaldi in the Danehill Stakes at Flemington on Saturday but the colt had a minor infection.

"The Danehill looks very strong and this race is best to get him started," Gollan said.

He was pleased with the way Garibaldi trialled on Tuesday when he won a heat at Doomben.

Garibaldi got back to near last in the trial but finished too strongly to run down another promising horse, Ballistic Boy.

Another of Gollan's horses, Vincere Volare, ran third in the trial and she will run in the Cap D'Antibes at Flemington on Saturday with Dwayne Dunn to ride.

Gollan has booked Irish jockey Martin Harley for his other Cap D'Antibes runner, Niedorp.

"It is a big day for the stable with multiple runners in Queensland and Victoria so let us hope for some luck," he said.
