Leading jockey Michael Cahill made the most of a late pick-up ride to help Ocean Addict break a frustrating run of minor placings at Eagle Farm.
Ocean Addict had run three consecutive seconds for a apprentice Jackson Murphy but the Toby and Trent Edmonds training partnership elected to book senior rider Ryan Maloney for the ride in the Cascade Handicap (2200m) on Saturday.
Those plans went awry when Maloney couldn't make the weight of 54kg and luckily for connections it was the only race of the day where Cahill didn't have a mount.
Cahill allowed Ocean Addict ($2.10) to drop out to the tail of the field and at one stage was 20 lengths off the tearaway leader Craiglea Cetina ($101).
He then allowed Ocean Addict to work home and run down Craiglea Cetina who did a good job to hang on for second.
"They were going very hard and had to stop but she did finish well," Cahill said.
Team Edmonds scratched Ocean Addict from the Lismore Cup on Thursday and that race was won by Cahill on Kuttamurra Al.
"We were 50-50 about running at Lismore but she is going for a long spell now and we thought this was her chance to win an Eagle Farm race," Toby Edmonds said.
