Taylor Swift a Melbourne Cup day no-show

Saturday 21 September 2019, 5:33pm

International singing superstar Taylor Swift will no longer perform at Flemington on Melbourne Cup day following a change to her Asian Tour dates.

The Victoria Racing Club announced on September 12 that Swift would perform two songs in the parade ring before the Melbourne Cup.

Mushroom Events and the VRC made the announcement on Saturday.

"Regrettably, Taylor is no longer able to make it to this year's Melbourne Cup," Michael Gudinski from Mushroom Events said.

"Changes to her Asian promo schedule have made it logistically impossible for her to be here.

"To all of Taylor's fans, we hope to see Taylor in Australia in 2020."

Swift was to be a major drawcard to Melbourne Cup day which attracts Australia's largest raceday crowd.

VRC chief executive Neil Wilson said it was disappointing for everyone that Swift could no longer attend the event.

"The VRC has learned that Taylor Swift is now unable to make the trip to Australia and therefore cannot be with us on Melbourne Cup Day," Wilson said.

"We understand how important the pre-Cup entertainment is and we look forward to providing an update shortly."
