Brisbane will hold its first set of official two-year-old trials in a decade in what officials hope is the first step in re-establishing them to their glory days.

There will be five heats at Eagle Farm on Monday.

Pre-season two-year-old trials were a major event in Brisbane for 50 years with as many as 25 heats.

For several years the trials were run as a charity event on a Sunday, well before Sunday racing was established.

In recent times the trials have been dropped altogether apart from some at random tracks.

The major reason for the decline has been many trainers do not bring their Magic Millions and Inglis Classic horses in to race until later than previously.

Racing Queensland racing manager Simon Stout said the increased prize money in Queensland meant more trainers were now preparing early season juveniles.

"The Brisbane Racing Club was keen for stand alone two-year-old trials and we support the idea," Stout said.

"There are five trials on Monday but hopefully that figure will double very soon."

There have been one-off trials for two-year-olds at several centres which have produced some impressive young horses.

At the Gold Coast, Sydney trainer Greg Hickman had a stylish winner, Press Start, who was a $180,000 buy at the Magic Millions Sales.

Toowoomba trainer Michael Nolan was pleased with the win of Sassy Enuff on his home track.

The filly is a daughter of Miss Imagica who Nolan trained to win two Weetwood Handicaps.

The most impressive of the Brisbane youngsters to trial to date has been the Steve O'Dea'-trained Gotta Kiss who was a $150,000 Not A Single Doubt filly also from Magic Millions

The first metropolitan two-year-old races are at Eagle Farm on October 5 with the first juvenile race of the Australian season at Toowoomba on Saturday night.
