Mystic Journey draws nine in G1 Turnbull

Wednesday 2 October 2019, 11:48am

A field of 12 will line up for the Group One Turnbull Stakes at Flemington, a race that could shape the prospects of a number of spring contenders.

Mystic Journey will be out to bounce back from her defeat in the Makybe Diva Stakes at Flemington on September 14 when she steps out over 2000m for the first time on Saturday.

The Adam Trinder-trained mare, drawn in barrier nine, had been successful in her previous seven outings and was sent out a short-priced favourite when beaten by $101 outsider Gatting in the Makybe Diva.

The 2016 Turnbull winner Hartnell, to be ridden by Underwood Stakes-winning jockey Brad Rawiller, has drawn barrier five and will be out to improve on his fourth placings at his past two starts in the Makybe Diva Stakes and Underwood Stakes.

Chris Waller, who prepared Winx to win the past two Turnbull Stakes on her way to Cox Plate glory, will have three runners - Finche, Verry Elleegant and Kings Will Dream while the Queensland Derby quinella pairing of Mr Quickie and Vow And Declare have drawn barriers 11 and four respectively.
