Jockey Luke Currie suspended at Flemington

Saturday 5 October 2019, 6:42pm

Luke Currie will consider whether to lodge an appeal against an eight-meeting careless riding suspension which threatens to keep him out of the Caulfield Guineas meeting.

Currie was suspended for shifting in early in the Group Two Gilgai Stakes on eventual winner Sunlight, causing I Am Someone to be steadied to avoid heels.

The jockey pleaded guilty to the careless riding charge and will take the suspension immediately to ensure he can ride star mare Sunlight in the $14 million Everest in Sydney in two weeks.

Unless he appeals the severity and gets one meeting shaved off the penalty, Currie will miss the ride on Blue Diamond winner Lyre in the Group One Thousand Guineas and Mahamedeis in the Group One Toorak Handicap next Saturday at Caulfield.
