Mizzy to fly flag for Anthony Cummings

Sunday 6 October 2019, 4:54pm

Anthony Cummings has sent Prince Fawaz to the spelling paddock with the trainer to rely on Mizzy to fly the stable flag for the time being.

The winner of the Group One J J Atkins Stakes in the winter, Prince Fawaz failed to flatter in two runs this campaign and Cummings abandoned the rest of his spring and any plans for Saturday's Caulfield Guineas or Spring Champion Stakes.

With Libertini's preparation also temporarily halted, Mizzy has been the star with three straight wins.

She lines up in Saturday's Silver Eagle (1300m) at Randwick with the first three placegetters assured of a start in the inaugural $7.5 million Golden Eagle (1500m) at Rosehill on November 2.

"Tim Clark will ride her on Saturday with Tommy (Berry ) suspended," Cummings said.

"She continues to do well. She just keeps stepping up."

Mizzy is unbeaten in three starts at Group level this campaign, most recently in the Group Two Golden Pendant.

While the Golden Eagle is the carrot for Mizzy, Cummings remains open to any discussion on the $14 million Everest if someone shows late interest in the mare.

Cummings and Libertini's owners, Gerry Harvey and John Singleton, abandoned plans to run her in the Group One Flight Stakes (1600m) after her third in the Tea Rose behind Funstar and Probabeel.

Funstar was a decisive winner of Saturday's Flight over Probabeel with Libertini now to be prepared for the Coolmore Stud Stakes over the straight 1200m at Flemington.

"She had nine days in the paddock and is back in the stable now," Cummings said.

"It was just a short break and she hasn't lost any fitness.

"She will head to Melbourne during the week."

Rival trainer Mark Newnham will saddle up the favourite in the Group One feature at Randwick on Saturday, the Spring Champion Stakes.

Shadow Hero dominated his rivals in the Gloaming Stakes and is on target to give Newnham back-to-back wins in the Spring Champion (2000m).

Newnham claimed his first win at the elite level with Maid Of Heaven last year.
