Boom apprentice to make city debut

Thursday 10 October 2019, 3:30pm

Emerging apprentice Adin Thompson will wear a famous set of racing colours when he makes his Saturday metropolitan debut at Eagle Farm.

Thompson was the leading Queensland apprentice last season and has ridden 101 winners in just under two seasons on the country and provincial circuit including the 2018 Birdsville Cup.

He will ride Kiss 'N' Get Ready for his masters Peter and Will Hulbert in the QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap (1000m).

Kiss 'N' Get Ready is raced on lease from the Lyndhurst Stud by family and friends of the Hulberts.

He will race in green and purple quarters with white sleeves and cap which have been carried by some of Queensland racing's top horses including Eye Liner, Eye Shadow, Bright Shadow, El Twice, English Statesman, and So Nice.

The colours were registered to Lyndhurst by the Kruger family who still run the famous stud where Kiss 'N' Get Ready's sire Better Than Ready stands.

The owners were able to get the colours for Kiss 'N' Get Ready's career.

Peter Hulbert said he was excited at the prospect of Thompson and Kiss 'N' Get Ready making their metropolitan debuts.

"Adin is a natural lightweight who can ride 51 kilpograms and he has already ridden four winners on a day twice. A few of the bigger stables have been chasing us to get his metro licence," Hulbert said.

"But we wanted to make certain he was 100 per cent ready before he came to town."

Hulbert said Kiss 'N' Get Ready had been solid in his two trials but had a tricky barrier (7).

"There will be a few scratchings with only ten runners allowed so we will see how things pan out," he said.
