Waller duo tune up for Everest with gallop

Saturday 12 October 2019, 3:25pm

Yes Yes Yes will wear blinkers in the $14 million Everest after the three-year-old passed a crucial test in them during a race day gallop at Randwick.

Trainer Chris Waller was keen to see how the Golden Rose runner-up responded to the gear change and Yes Yes Yes passed with flying colours.

"We've got blinkers on him so I wanted to make sure he got into that parade ring and relaxed with them on," Waller said.

"I've had them on before in a trial at Canterbury and he sweated up quite badly but today he was perfect."

Ridden by race jockey Glen Boss, Yes Yes Yes worked solo between races at Randwick on Saturday, clocking 1:01.82 for 1000 metres and running home his last 600 metres in 35.07 seconds.

Stablemate Arcadia Queen also had an exhibition gallop with Jason Collett warming the saddle for James McDonald who was in Melbourne for the Caulfield Guineas day program.

Arcadia Queen had a more leisurely hitout, striding over the 1000 metres in 1:05.69, her final 600 metres in 36.19 seconds.

She got the thumbs up from Collett, who was especially taken with her final 100 metres, as was her trainer.

"Through the line, she was just charging," Waller said.

"Today was just to keep her sharp and get her used to the atmosphere because it's a big day, Everest day.

"A week out, I think it's a perfect piece of work from both of them."

The pair will be joined by speedy stablemate Nature Strip in the Everest, Waller reporting the horse arrived back in Sydney from Melbourne on Friday.

A last-start winner of the Moir Stakes, Nature Strip will have his final serious piece of work on Monday while Waller will round out preparations for Arcadia Queen and Yes Yes Yes later in the week.
