Kendrick soldiers on without Eric The Eel

Caloundra trainer Stuart Kendrick's roller coaster week continued when his mare Copywriter scored an upset win at Doomben.

It was Kendrick's sixth win in a week which was soured by an injury to his top three-year-old Eric The Eel in the Caulfield Guineas on Saturday.

"It was terrific to be part of last Saturday at Caulfield with a great atmosphere and a big crowd," he said.

"Unfortunately it didn't carry over to Eric The Eel but he will be back next year for another try."

Copywriter ($16) finished powerfully to beat the short priced favourite Desert Man ($1.22), who was later found to have bled, in a Class 5 Plate (1200m).

The mare carved out the 1200m in 1.08.88 which would win most stakes races at Doomben.

"I might have to think about a black type race on that time," Kendrick said.

"She has been racing well but I thought Desert Man would be too quick. But as everyone keeps saying, racing is a funny game."

Talented filly Epicurious confirmed her form around some of the state's best three-year-olds with an easy five lengths win in a maiden.

Epicurious had been racing in top three-year-old company including a recent third behind smart gallopers Profit and Guntantes.

Trainer Louise White said Epicurious might have finally learned what racing was all about.

"She has been doing a lot wrong against the better three-year-olds but she had a lovely run today and showed what she can do," White said.

The decision to geld expensive horse Group Think ($1.80) could pay big dividends after he broke his maiden.

"He is still a bit coltish but that will go. I really like this horse and I think he will be more than handy at 2000m," co-trainer Toby Edmonds said.
