Avilius in fight to be right for Cox Plate

Sunday 20 October 2019, 2:02pm

Triple Group One winner Avilius will undertake an enforced gallop in a bid to run in the Cox Plate after bleeding from one nostril.

Godolphin's Australian head trainer James Cummings told Racing Victoria the horse was found to have bled after he returned to Flemington from a gallop at The valley on Saturday morning.

Before racing again, Avilius needs to undergo a satisfactory gallop of at least 1000 metres in the presence of a steward.

Cummings has told RV he wants to gallop Avilius at Flemington on Tuesday morning for reinstatement ahead of Saturday's Cox Plate.

He also told stewards the gelding's spring campaign had not been interrupted as a result of the incident.
