Injury ends Red Galileo Melbourne Cup bid

Wednesday 30 October 2019, 11:17am

Godolphin stayer Red Galileo has been taken to the University Of Melbourne Veterinary Hospital after sustaining a leg injury during trackwork at Werribee.

The injury has ruled the Saeed bin Suroor-trained nine-year-old from running in the Melbourne Cup on November 5.

Red Galileo worked at Werribee racecourse on Wednesday morning and returned to his quarantine barn before being transported to hospital for X-rays and scans on his near foreleg.

The Godolphin stayer was 33rd in the Melbourne Cup order of entry.

Red Galileo ran second in The Ebor behind Mustajeer at York in August and at his only Australian start finished fifth to Prince Of Arran in the Geelong Cup on October 23.
