Waller eyes UK return with Everest duo

Thursday 31 October 2019, 1:02pm

Chris Waller has flagged a possible Royal Ascot assault next year with star sprinters Yes Yes Yes and Nature Strip.

Waller announced the plans on Thursday and also said three-year-old Yes Yes Yes would be immediately spelled rather than contest Saturday week's VRC Sprint at Flemington.

The leading Sydney trainer resisted showing off four-time Cox Plate winner Winx on English turf during her stellar career, challenging European trainers to bring their horses to Australia to take her on.

But the lure of the prestigious English carnival is a tempting prospect for Waller, who plans to make the trip with Everest champion Yes Yes Yes and dual Group One winner Nature Strip.

"Royal Ascot is something unique," Waller said on Thursday.

"We're all striving to get there. It's a fantastic showpiece. It appeals more to colts that can really justify their big price tags.

"But a horse like Nature Strip, he'll be getting there for our stable if all goes to plan and hopefully Yes Yes Yes, who won The Everest."

Brazen Beau finished second for Waller in the 2015 Diamond Jubilee Stakes before running unplaced in the Group One July Cup at Newmarket.

Speaking ahead of the inaugural $7.5 million Golden Eagle at Rosehill, Waller said his main reservation about a return to England next year was the steep drop-off in earnings.

"If they put the prize money up, they'll all be there," he said.
