Stewards adjourn Jamaican Rain inquiry

Tuesday 5 November 2019, 12:13pm

Trainer Richard Laming will front an inquiry into the possible race day treatment of Jamaican Rain, a late scratching from a support race on the Melbourne Cup program.

Racing Victoria stewards ordered the mare's withdrawal on Tuesday morning after the Compliance Assurance Team inspected Jamaican Rain at Laming's Cranbourne stable.

During the inspection, the mare was found to have swelling in her off fore knee and stewards judged her unfit to run in the Group Three Jim Beam Stakes (1400m) for which she was favourite.

After taking evidence from the CAT investigators over the alleged race day treatment, stewards adjourned the inquiry.
