Gerald Ryan tries not to play favourites but admits he has a soft spot for Snitzel's Jewel who makes her city debut at Warwick Farm on Saturday.
She came home from her first trip to the races in February as the winner of a 1000m maiden at Gosford and lines up over the same distance in the race for two-year-old fillies.
Ryan has elected to keep her home in Sydney rather than take her to Melbourne for an open juvenile race at Caulfield.
"I really love her," Ryan said.
"They don't have to be the best to be your favourite.
"She's got attitude and style and I've got a lot of time for her.
"I trained her mother Princess Shorna and she ran second to Lady Jakeo at her first start but she never really reached her potential. She got a virus which knocked her around a bit."
Although he isn't yet certain where she stands against the more experienced late two-year-olds, Ryan hopes Saturday's race will be a stepping stone to big things in the spring.
"If she measures up then she will head to the Princess Series in the new season," he said.
Ryan trained her sire Snitzel to win the 2006 Oakleigh Plate and has an affinity with his progeny which includes Snitzky who runs in the 1200m Benchmark 85 at Warwick Farm.
"He's had a break since he was unplaced at Randwick in May where he had a hard run," Ryan said.
"He's nice and fresh and Blake Shinn will ride but we haven't settled on a jockey for Snitzel's Jewel yet."
Imported stayer Martinvast will also represent the stable at Warwick Farm in a Benchmark 80 over 2200m.
The winner of three races in France, Martinvast held his ground for an encouraging fourth over 1900m on a heavy track last Monday.
