Loire is Redoute's Choice's 36th G1 winner

New Zealand's newest Group One winner, Loire, has become the 36th at the elite level for her super sire Redoute's Choice.

Bred by Brent and Cherry Taylor's Trelawyney Stud from their mare Syrah, Loire won Saturday's Thousand Guineas at Riccarton for trainer Tony Pike and jockey Michael NcNab.

Arrowfield Stud's pride and joy, Redoute's Choice, died earlier this year.

"We loved Redoute's Choice and thought he would make a super broodmare sire so tried to buy and breed as many as we could afford," Cherry Taylor said.

"We sent Syrah because we thought he was the best stallion in the southern hemisphere and wanted to breed to him, and she deserved to go to him being a half-sister to Group One winner Vouvray and the dam of Group One winner A Touch of Ruby."

Trelawney also bred 20009 Toorak Handicap winner Allez Wonder trained by Bart Cummings.

Loire is Redoute's Choice's fourth Group One winner this year after Galaxy Star in Perth, Danceteria in Europe and The Autumn Sun in Sydney.

The Autumn Sun is standing his first season at Arrowfield amid hopes he can replace his famous sire as a champion stallion.

Cherry Taylor said given Loire's relationship to Queensland Oaks winner Vouvray, they hoped she could extend her repertoire to 2400m.

"She's out of a half-sister to Queensland Oaks winner Vouvray so we're hoping she might be able to get up to that sort of distance in her three-year-old season," she said.

"We would dearly love to win a race like the Australian Oaks with her in the autumn as we went within an inch of victory with Boundless in 2008 after she had won the New Zealand Oaks so it would be nice to return and go one better this time."
