Hollie Doyle reaches century of winners

Friday 22 November 2019, 7:20am

Hollie Doyle has become the third female jockey in Britain to ride 100 winners in a year with victory on The Perfect Crown at Chelmsford.

The 23-year-old joins Hayley Turner and Josephine Gordon as the only women to reach the century in a season.

Fittingly The Perfect Crown is trained by Archie Watson who has supplied 41 of Doyle's winners this year.

Doyle could yet break Gordon's record of 106, set in 2017, and did not have to wait long for winner number 101, through Lady Dancealot for David Elsworth.

Her partner, fellow jockey Tom Marquand, said Doyle had worked hard for her success.

"It takes a lot of hard work and dedication, and that's what she's done," Marquand said.

"Not many women have achieved it so far and I think she underestimates what an achievement it is.

"When you are doing it every day I don't think you really take it in.

"It's a phenomenal achievement, she stands in the record books and she's still got a bit of time. If she passes the 106 that would make her the winning-most female ever.

"It's been a massive year for her."
