Racing makes drought relief No.1 priority

Wednesday 27 November 2019, 3:36pm

Racing Queensland and four major betting operators will donate $5000 to help drought-stricken bush areas each time No.1 number one saddlecloth or rug wins a race in Queensland this weekend.

It has the potential to raise more than $600,000 for bush relief.

RQ plans to donate $1000 to the QCWA's Public Rural Crisis Fund for every No.1 winner and that has been matched by four wagering agencies.

The pledge covers 123 events made up of 68 TAB and non-TAB thoroughbred races, 34 greyhound races and 21 harness races.

The three placegetters from the Country Cups Challenge Final at Doomben on Saturday will also be awarded $5000, $3000 and $2000 respectively to donate to a rural charity of their choice.
