Prominent owner-breeder George Altomonte looks to have another smart filly on his hands in Canterbury winner Watabout.
Altomonte won this year's Golden Slipper with Overreach and leading jockey Nash Rawiller, who partnered Watabout to victory in Wednesday's Australian Turf Club Handicap (1250m), rates the youngster as potentially stakes-class.
"I'm not making any bold statements but don't be surprised if she is a black-type filly," Rawiller said.
"She can definitely go on to better things."
The Allan Denham-trained Watabout has now won two of her three starts, both victories coming at Canterbury.
Rawiller positioned her on the back of the speed in Wednesday's race and she let down strongly once clear to score by three lengths over the Peter Moody-trained Repartee, who had finished runner-up in Saturday company at her previous start.
Stable rider for Gai Waterhouse, Rawiller has made a late-season charge to pose some threat to premiership pacesetter Hugh Bowman for the Sydney jockeys' title.
His victory aboard Watabout took him to within 7-1/2 wins of Bowman, although Rawiller wasn't talking up his chances of reeling in Bowman's lead.
"It's just nice to be in form and riding well," Rawiller said.
