Guy has dual attack on Eagle Way series

Thursday 5 December 2019, 12:37pm

Trainer Bryan Guy is rebuilding his stable numbers and will get a special buzz if he can win a heat of the Eagle Way series at Doomben.

The Eagle Way series is named after the Guy-trained 2016 Group One Queensland Derby winner and is designed for trainers to test their early season three-year-olds as stayers.

The heats of the series carry $125,000 prize money and have the bonus of helping trainers build on qualifying money for the Queensland Derby and Queensland Oaks next winter.

The $250,000 Group Three Grand Prix Stakes will double as the final of the series and will be run at Eagle Farm on December 21.

Guy, who trains in partnership with his son Daniel at the Gold Coast, has Accessory and the illy Alignment in Saturday's heat over 2000m and he has high hopes for both.

"They have both given me an indication that they are looking for at least the 2000 metres on Saturday," Guy said.

"Alignment's last start was very good as she got dragged back through the field by a horse which pulled up sore.

"By the time she got clear they were off and gone but she worked home well."

Guy said Accessory had also been racing without luck and had finished close to some smart horses.

"It would obviously be nice to win a race named after Eagle Way and who knows we might be there again come Derby and Oaks time," he said.

Guy said the stable had been down on numbers and was gradually rebuilding.

"We have been quiet but we have recently got some nice horses from the south so we should be back full tilt soon," he said.
