Jumps jockey cleared to ride in National

Wednesday 10 July 2013, 5:58pm

Jumps jockey Tom Ryan is clear to ride in Sunday's two jumps features at Sandown after having his eight-race suspension varied on appeal.

Ryan will ride Brungle Cry in the $200,000 Grand National Hurdle and Kirribilli Gold in the Crisp Steeplechase.

Stewards found Ryan guilty of careless riding when he allowed his mount Hempstead jump the last fence in the steeplechase at Casterton last Sunday.

The stewards ruled that Ryan should have retired the horse from the race after it had blundered on landing over the second last.

Horse and rider were both uninjured in the incident.

The Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board allowed his appeal against the decision and the severity of the penalty.

Ryan has enjoyed considerable success since coming to Australia from Ireland having won last year's Australian Hurdle and Steeplechase double.
