Price, Kent Jr train four-timer at Sandown

Wednesday 11 December 2019, 5:53pm

Mick Price has enjoyed his most successful day with his training partner Mick Kent Jr preparing four winners and a second from six starters at the Sandown twilight fixture.

It is not the first time Price has trained four winners, registering that haul at Sandown in February 2009.

"I've had plenty of four seconds and four thirds and four lasts, so it is nice to get four winners," Price said.

Kent Jr joined Price in March and Wednesday's quartet came in the first five races courtesy of Bella Amore, Right You Are, Shezawitness and Scorpius.

Price said he won't be rushing into getting Right You Are back to the track after the gelding's maiden win in the Ladbrokes Back Yourself Plate with the trainer immediately declaring the gelding was headed for a spell.

"He got himself beaten a couple of times by being green, but he's going to the paddock as he's got a bright future," Price said.

"I think the dam as she got older, she got better, so I'm not going to short-cut him to get him into the autumn."

Price removed the blinkers from Right You Are's race day gear replacing them with winkers on Wednesday.

The trainer said blinkers had brought about the gelding's downfall at Pakenham.

"He switches off when in front in his races and in his work and that's what beat him last time," Price said.

Scorpius is a stakes winner-in-waiting according to the trainer after a 1-3/4 length win in the Le Pine Funerals Handicap (1300m).

"There's a race on Boxing Day at Caulfield that might suit him and that's why I didn't go to Flemington on Saturday with him," Price said.

"He's a nice horse and eventually I think he'll get some black-type, but it's a matter of winning some nice races now."
