The powerful Peter and Paul Snowden stable has strengthened its Golden Slipper stocks with two colts winning their debuts at different venues in the same colours
Bartley was an impressive 3-1/4 length winner at Kembla Grange on Saturday while Wild Ruler displayed his talent with a one length win in the $500,000 Inglis Nursery at Randwick a little while later.
The Randwick race was delayed for some time when the occasion became too much for country-trained Spicy Restaurant who did not want to go out on to the track and then needed to be reshod.
Paul Snowden said the delay enhanced Wild Ruler's win with the colt displaying mental maturity beyond his experience.
The $3.50 favourite beat Encountabull ($5.50) with Canadian Spice ($19) another 1-1/2 lengths third.
"He did so much wrong but still managed to win quite comfortably," Snowden said.
"He has got a bit of substance to him.
"He will be on a Blue Diamond-Golden Slipper preparation.
"He is a pretty good horse, he is still learning.
"He's got height and length and there is a bit to work with there so it's important to get these runs on the board early.
"The Kembla winner is as good as this bloke."
Like Bartley, Wild Ruler is raced by a syndicate which includes Newgate Farm and the China Horse Club.
Newgate was also involved in the ownership of the Snowden-trained 2016 Slipper winner Capitalist.
Jockey Kerrin McEvoy said he believed the form from the race would stack up getting closer to next year's Group One features.
"It was a quality win," McEvoy said.
"He's got a nice way about him.
"He's got speed but was out-sped early. We took a sit and I liked the way he picked up when I wanted to go.
"He's done it there in what I'd say is not a bad two-year-old race."
