Rock Beat runs class record at Eagle Farm

Saturday 21 December 2019, 2:43pm

Toowoomba gelding Rock Beat atoned for a near fall at his previous start when he smashed the class record with a storming win at Eagle Farm.

Rock Beat ($5) came from second last to swamp the leaders and beat Ice Frost ($14) by a length in the Membership at BTC Handicap (1000m).

The gelding clocked 56.39 seconds which bettered the previous class record of 56.55 with a final 600m leader timed sectional of 33.02..

Rock Beat was a short-priced favourite at Doomben at his previous start but ran second last after suffering severe interference, on November 30.

"He was lame for a week after that. I really thought he was a good thing at Doomben but he was lucky he didn't fall," Sears said.

"Rock Beat is a nice horse and I think he can go on to win a good race. He has won six of his 12 starts and it should be even a bit better."

Luke Tarrant, who rode Rock Beat, confirmed Sears' high opinion of the gelding.

"He had an extra gear in the straight and that is the mark of a good horse," he said.
