Ballarat calls another Caulfield trainer

Monday 23 December 2019, 6:45pm

With Caulfield to close as a training centre, Henry Dwyer is the latest to choose Ballarat as his new home.

Dwyer last week began excavation works on a private training facility next to the Ballarat racecourse.

It will incorporate a 1000m-sand track, a 26-horse barn, 14 walk-in, walk-out yards, day paddocks, treadmill, walkers and direct access to the Ballarat training tracks.

Dwyer hopes to have the project completed by mid-2020 when his Caulfield operation will move to Ballarat and run in conjunction with the beach facility the trainer has at St Leonards, near Geelong.

"We have long felt Ballarat to be the premier, and certainly most progressive, training facility in Australia and we are extremely excited to be working with the Ballarat Turf Club to bring our vision to fruition," Dwyer said in a statement.

"Our staff were notified of plans last week with many likely to relocate with us to Ballarat.

"We are all tremendously excited with what the future holds for HDR in Ballarat and feel we are on the cusp of taking our business to the next level.

"With great people, supportive owners, value-based purchasing processes, industry leading communications and now facilities the envy of all trainers, we are extremely well placed to provide our clients with an elite racing experience."

Last month fellow Caulfield trainer Andrew Noblet announced he was relocating to Ballarat and he hopes to be in his on-course stables by March.
