Hard-working jockey Andrew Spinks bounced back after being stood down from riding on Friday to score a rare metropolitan winner at the Gold Coast.
Spinks rode Ice Frost ($8) who won a slog to the line to beat the short-priced favourite Epic Girl ($1.70) in the Class 6 Plate (1200m).
The popular jockey rides all over the state but gets limited chances in the city.
He was stood down halfway through the Gatton meeting on Friday with a migraine and needed a doctor's certificate to take the Ice Frost ride.
"I want to thank the owner for sticking with me. They walked early and I reckon we were going 15 seconds to the furlong," Spinks said.
"Ice Frost was bolting on the turn and I was surprised we had gone so slow."
Ice Frost is trained by Doug Duryea at Beaudesert and the mare has now won six races.
"We will potter around and find another one of these for her," he said.
