Yamazaki to chase Magic Millions riches

Saturday 4 January 2020, 7:29pm

Improving mare Yamazaki could have earned herself a start on Magic Millions day with her win at the Gold Coast.

Yamazaki ($13) stormed home from back in the field to win the Rising Stars for fillies and mares over 1300m at the Gold Coast.

Trainer David Pfieffer said the mare would back up in the $1 million Magic Millions Fillies and Mares race if she got a start.

Yamazaki has been with Pfieffer only for this campaign after she was originally trained by Chris Anderson at Eagle Farm.

"I have only had her a short time but I have got a bit of opinion of her," he said.

"I would be mad not to run her in the Millions if she gets a start."

Champion jockey Glen Boss rode Yamazaki and agreed she would be a Chance in the Millions.

"It was one of the better runs of the day. She went quick when she let down," Boss said.

Yamazaki picked up $145,000 in prize money to lift her total to $267,000.

There are 41 nominations for the Millions race but Yamazaki is on the cusp of getting a run.
