Luvaluva to extend summer campaign

Monday 6 January 2020, 6:28pm

Luvaluva will be given the chance to add another stakes win to her record with trainer John Sargent extending her summer campaign to include the January Cup at Randwick.

The last-start winner of the Group Three Summer Cup (2000m) on December 26 will line up over the same distance in Saturday's Listed race.

The Summer Cup was Luvaluva's first win since the Group Three Adrian Knox (2000m) in April 2018 and Sargent had flagged a short spell before the autumn.

But the mare heads the 13 nominations taken on Monday for the January Cup.

Koby Jennings, who scored his biggest win in the Summer Cup, again rides Luvaluva.

A day after Luvaluva's win, Tinkermosa regained her winning form to take out the Group Three Belle Of The Turf Stakes at Gosford.

Both mares galloped over 1400m at Randwick on Monday morning with Tinkermosa to line up in Saturday's benchmark 78 over 1800m.

In-form apprentice Billy Owen will ride Tinkermosa.

Owen is indentured to John O'Shea who has entered Berdibek in the January Cup following his win over 1800m last Saturday week.

Owen has renewed his commitment to riding over the past two months after struggling with his weight during the winter months.

"I am riding at 56 kilos," he said.

"I have a personal trainer and I'm really enjoying it at John's.

"Things are going well for me."

Owen rode another metropolitan winner on Saturday aboard the Brad Widdup-trained Rare Episode.

A mature-age apprentice, Owen interrupted his career to become a foreman for Nick O live at Canberra.

He was track rider and constant companion to Group One winner Single Gaze, runner-up in the 2017 Caulfield Cup, before renewing his indentures in the ACT.

Owen made the move to Sydney last year.
