Heathcote hopes syndicate luck continues

Thursday 9 January 2020, 6:22pm

Trainer Robert Heathcote hopes his luck with horses raced by big syndicates at Doomben carries over to the Gold Coast.

The Heathcote-trained Ready For Magic ($6.50) won at Thursday's meeting for a Flying Start syndicate before a Rob Slade syndicated horse, Spirit Rich ($10), won.

Heathcote racked up a treble when he trained a winner for his wife Vicky, the owner of Emerald Kingdom.

The Doomben twilight meeting was the first of five consecutive Thursdays when Racing Queensland will gauge whether a permanent shift from Wednesday midweek racing is warranted.

Heathcote has Dusty Tycoon, who is raced by a MiRunner's syndicate with 1000 shares, in the $2 million 2YO Classic at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

"Syndicates are a great way to get people interested in racing so I always enjoy winning for them whether a mid-week or a big day," Heathcote said.

"Dusty Tycoon has an ordinary barrier (15) but she is in the Magic Millions and has a chance so hopefully the luck continues."

Heathcote breeds some of his horses but is also a supporter of the Queensland yearling sales.

He bought four yearlings at the Magic Millions on Wednesday and will be back seeking more on Friday and Sunday.

In what he hopes is a further omen, Ready For Magic and Spirit Rich are both graduates of Magic Millions sales.

Ready For Magic, a son of Better Than Ready, cost $20,000 at the March sales and Spirit Rich, a filly by Spirit of Boom, cost $90,000 at the same auction.
