Blazejowski ready for Flemington return

Friday 10 January 2020, 1:50pm

Blazejowski was able to rise through the grades during his previous racing campaign and trainer Greg Eurell believes the signs are positive he can take another step up this time around.

The five-year-old gelding runs for the first time since June in Saturday's Furlong Bar Handicap (1100m) at Flemington, with Eurell bullish about how the gelding has been going in the lead-up.

"It will be very interesting to see what he does this time in," Eurell said.

"I'm pretty happy where he's at and if he can take that next step we'll certainly be targeting some stronger races with him.

"You always hope they can do it but it wouldn't surprise me if he did from the feel I've been getting on him back at home."

Eurell was not happy with Blazejowski in the spring and opted to give him another break. But it's been a different story this time around.

"He came in and just wasn't quite right in himself," Eurell said.

"His action was a bit awkward. He wasn't right so we just put him back out.

"He has come back in and he's absolutely sensational.

"He's in really good order."

Blazejowski won three consecutive races in his autumn/winter campaign from a benchmark-70 at Sale first-up to an open handicap at Flemington.

He narrowly missed out on making it four when a close second in a heat of the Winter Championship Series at Flemington.

"He's a horse that dramatically improved in that preparation from his previous one," Eurell said.

"He's gone from a low-graded horse up to an open company horse and he was just unlucky not to make it four in a row.

"He's a progressive horse. He's lovely and sound and condition-wise he looks great."

Blazejowski is the $3.90 second favourite for Saturday's race and signalled to Eurell he was on song when he easily won a recent Cranbourne jump-out.

'Based on what he did in that I thought he didn't need a second one," Eurell said.

"He's in a good spot and I think the race on Saturday has probably panned out lovely for us.

"He's ready to go."

The feature on the day is the Listed Chester Manifold Stakes (1400m) in which lightly raced Bumper Blast is the $2.30 favourite to win his first stakes test.
