Kendrick chases Millions consolation

Monday 13 January 2020, 3:07pm

Caloundra trainer Stuart Kendrick plans to have three runners in the Magic Millions Classic consolation on his home track.

Kendrick had three of the five emergencies for the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic at the Gold Coast on Saturday but none got a run.

The trio - Way Beyond, Cosmic Gossip and Poupee - will all chase the $125,000 Sunshine Coast Classic on Saturday week.

The race carries a $50,000 bonus to the winner if it was also an acceptor for the Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

The Sunshine Coast race has grown in stature in recent years and is seen as a Magic Millions consolation.

Kendrick said it was debatable whether any of his trio could have taken a hand in the Magic Millions finish.

"In hindsight we might have got a run for Way Beyond by running in a Sunday two-year-old race and getting enough prize money but that is in the past and we can now concentrate on the Sunshine Coast," Kendrock said.

"But they have all been racing well and they are back on their home track.

"The Sunshine Coast race is a good idea and it adds to what is a good summer carnival ending meeting."

The Toby and Trent Edmonds partnership is also likely to run another Classic emergency, The Drinks Cart, in the Sunshine Coast Classic after he missed a run on Saturday.

The Edmonds stable had the best performed Queensland horse in the Magic Millions Classic, Wisdom of Water who finished fourth.

"He really hit the line well and we were very pleased with him. His immediate future will be decided in the next few days," Trent Edmonds said.

While many stables will have a respite from the pressure of Magic Millions week, the Edmonds will have Winter Bride in the Group One Telegraph at Trentham in New Zealand.
